Meeting time: 1800
The April orienteering will be on Wednesday 10th April, and will involve part of the fixed course in Vogrie Country Park, and part of a course set by me. I will provide the maps and the record card required and even a pen if you need one, so just bring a compass and a map case. It's fine in trainers - no need for walking boots.
The meeting point is the car park for Crichton Castle, at NT380615. From Edinburgh, take the A68 and then as you reach the village of Pathhead, turn R onto the B6367, then follow to the T-junction in Crichton village, turn R there and follow the signs to Crichton Castle. Fork L where the road splits and follow to the free car park at the end, past the church, where you will find my white van!
People without their own transport should meet at Cameron Toll in the car park opposite Sainsburys petrol station at 6pm - there are lots of buses to there from all over Edinburgh, and I'll make sure lifts are available to the start point.
I will be ready for people to start the course at 5-30pm. Last start will be about 7-00pm. So, get there as early as you can and you can start straightaway - this way I hope to space people out a bit more than previously. Those who want to walk should try and get there a bit earlier. The course is a loop and can be done in either direction, so that will help to space people out too. It will take about 90 minutes for experienced orienteers, others may need quite a bit longer than that. I'm planning a final finish time of 9pm - after that the temporary check points will get taken down!
There will also be a shorter variation available which is about half as long as the whole course. It will get dark about 8-30, so the event should be mostly in daylight.
Beer afterwards at The Foresters, which is on the A68 in the village of Pathhead, towards the south end of the village. Serves food till 9.
Please let me know (email@example.com) orr text me on 07726 354072 if you are intending to come. This is so I can make sure I have enough maps etc, and also so I can let you know if a monsoon arrives that evening and we have to cancel it. It also helps with organising lifts.
